Arcelor mittal steel

Placement Experience :

Written Test :

"There are two types of companies - technical and management

In technical we have PSUs(Public Sector Units) and private companies. PSUs always shortlist the toppers ( based on CGPA) from general category and special quota and mostly pick the top few from each category based on their requirements. No written test or group discussion. Direct personal interview with only technical questions being asked from a variety of subjects and surely a few questions from the projects and IPTs mentioned in our CVs

The private companies mostly have the following selection procedure - written round(either aptitude (verbal and quants) or technical objective or short answer type) followed by GD followed by personal interview. The above mentioned process mostly involves elimination at the end of each step.

The written round if its technical involves a set of objective type questions from either meta subjects or it may be 10th and 12th class physics and chemistry reated questions. The aptitude written generally involves very simple aptitude questions ( surely not CAT level ) and verbal is of the mediocre type.

The GD generally is carried out with hot topics from current issues and reading the newspaper before appearing for any company is very very important.

The personal interview in this case maybe fully HR or fully technical or partly HR and partly technical.

The level of difficulty in each of the above mentioned rounds varies from company to company.

I sat for 3 companies and got placed in the third one. First was IOCL, a PSU only technical interview - it was pretty hard to predict what would be the result at the end of it! It finally picked top two from general and top two from special categories. Its kind of decided that only top 2 or 3 will get! The number they pick varies every yr!

IOCL QUESTIONS

1. Rockwell hardness testing

2. Metals used in aircraft wings and body

3. Metals used in moving parts of aotomobiles(cast Al-Si alloys)

4. Impact testing - DBTT - how is the impact test done?

Next was Ashok Leyland(no spl category quota) -  The written paper had three sections and it was pretty difficult but we got news that same questions get repeated yr after yr and we were given the previous year question papers and askd to refer to them. Though a lot questions were repeated the paper was dificut and the shortlist announced was totally arbit. We guessed it wasn't purely based on our performance in the written round. This was followed by technical PI. It ended up choosing two ppl.

Next was ARCELOR MITTAL DHAMM PROCESSING Procedure: (i) Pre-Placement talk

(ii)Written technical test

comprised of basic questions from welding, heat treatment, mechanical metallurgy and some basic mech questions as well.It was pretty simple only

(iii) Group discussion

The topic was ""Eastern India doesn't have good industrial development"".I had the advantage of being the only girl in the group. It was kinda difficult to speak as the guys kept talking one after the other. :) but then when i gotta chance I was able to make a valid point. So I got selected.

(iv) Personal interview

Fully HR.Ended up like a casual chat with the employers. At the end of the interview I was pretty sure I would get the job! And ya i finally got it!!
