Hai,
Both IITs are good.We can not distinguish easily.
In VLSI also which u like mostly either Analog or Digital Domain or Device Modeling .. ?
based on this u can judge ur self...
Just go through their web sites and find out the projects they r doing and facilities.Look at the Prof details and Placements as well...

Here is my knowledge on IITs
1.IITM is strong in Device Modeling,IITB strong in Nano Technology..
2.In Digital IITB preferable than IITM...
3.Both IITs are sound in Analog Domain.

Both are working on 65nm Technology and have their own collaraborations with Fabs.

hey dude first of all congrats ,
compared to IITM VLSI , IITB Micro Electronics is more preferred as explained above...
and i think u have missed IITD VDTT(VLSI Design and tools and technology).
generally IITians say that in INDIA for electronics
and VLSI courses the first best one is IISC CEDT and the next one is IITD VDTT . becoz this is more industry oriented program , here u will be sponsored by a company(like Intel,philips,Teaxs..etc) they will bare all ur expenses and in ur second year u have to do a project in their company ie u r Mtech project will be in their guidance. the course content is even designed by company's representatives (i.e prof's)
u will be exposed to advanced VLSI tools like CADENCE Custom IC Design Tools etc..

You have got very good rank in your hand.I dont know why r you looking for Computer Technology at IITD. Its for the rankers above 250(Ec).
You have very good chances at IITM(Communication Systems,VLSI) and IITKGP(VLSI,Embedded Sys)and Try for VLSI design Tools and Technology at IITD(Inter disciplenery course),and Apply for Communications Systems at IITB.
Comming to pay, You will get more pay from the above mentioned course than Computer Technology(IITD).
If you really want Computer Technology, there is no need for any interview, you will directly get the admission.
In my above mentioned list also,they offer direct admission in many IITs.
Good Luck, I suggest you not to look for Computer Technology.

These r the possible options for you,
1. IITB--Communication Systems
2.IITKGP--VLSI,Embedded Sys-- Direct admission
3 IITM--Communication Sys, VLSI -(Direct admission)
4.IITD--Integrated Electronics, (Direct admission)
VDTT,
Forget abt other IIT's.
If you want Computer Technology (IITD),Give that as a first option in application. Otherwise yours will not be considered for direct admission

Generally IITs keep a cut of on Score from last 2 years , whither u score is of this year or last year still they take it granted for score,
and regarding comparison of scores( between this yr and last yr) there will not be much difference becoz score will be calculated on the whole and depens on number of factors like no of students attended the gate..so on...
so u will be treated as the same guy who scored 731 this year..
