XAT

 

 

XAT is one of the most popular National level Admission/entrance test among the MBA aspirants all over India conducted by Xavier Labour Research Institute, Jamshedpur (XLRI). XAT Exam is generally held after the CAT, between the 3rd week of December and 2nd week of January.

             XAT 2009 (Xavier Admission Test), the entrance exam to XLRI (Xavier Labour Research Institute, Jamshedpur] is also the entrance test to be taken by MBA aspirants seeking admission to many other reputed Top B-Schools in the country such as XIM [Xavier Institute of Management] Bhubaneswar, LIBA [Loyola Institute of Business Administration], Chennai, and many other reputed B Schools such as XIME Bangalore.

   XAT usually comprises 3 Objective type Multiple Choice sections and an essay writing section.
  1. Verbal Reasoning (English) - (Objective Type Multiple Choice)
  2. Quantitative Ability and Reasoning (Math) - (Objective Type Multiple Choice)
  3. Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning - (Objective Type Multiple Choice)
  4. And an essay writing section
The duration of the test is 120 minutes for the objective type section and an additional 15 minutes is provided at the end of the 2 hours for the essay writing section.

      1) Master of Business Administration: Two year
      2) Business Management Program: Two year full time
      3)Personal Management and Industrial Relations Program: Two year full time
      4) General Management Program: One year full time program for working executives
      5) Executive PG Program: Three year part time program for working executives


Eligibility :
A three-year Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in any discipline recognized by the Association of Indian Universities as eligible for Post-Graduate studies in Management.


XLRI XAT  Exam Pattern:

XAT usually comprises 3 sections - with a time limit of 40 minutes for each of the sections.

One section is Reading Comprehension and Verbal Ability questions. Another section is Quantitative Ability, Reasoning and Data Interpretation questions and the Third section is General Awareness Questions.

             The Number of Sections: 3 (With an Essay after the test)

              The Number of Questions: 200 (It may change time to time)

              No of Choices per question: 4

              Time given for the paper: 120 min

              Time given for the essay: 20 min

              Marks for correct answer: +1

              Marks for wrong answer: -1/3

Essay Topic: Students are expected to write an essay of about 250-300 words in 20 minutes.


Application Procedure and Test Centres

 

Procedure for Obtaining XAT Bulletin from SBI and XAT Registration

  1. Registration for XAT - The applicant has to log on to the website www.xlri.edu and go to XAT registration. Here they have to fill in the XAT form on-line with personal details, XAT Bulletin No., date and SBI branch name and submit the form online. After submission the candidate will immediately get their XAT ID and password.
  2. Candidates are required to download and take print out of XAT Payment Advice cum Photo Form (XAT PP Form)
  3. Candidates have to paste their recent photograph and give full signature at the space indicated on the XAT PP Form. The candidate has to enclose the third copy of the bank/XAT pay-in-slip along with the duly completed XAT PP Form and use the special envelope provided in the XAT Bulletin and send it by registered post / speed post / courier preferably within a week, after obtaining the XAT Bulletin.
  4. candidate has to keep a copy of the printout of XAT ID and password for any modification to personal details, taking a print out of XAT Admit Card and for any correspondence with the XAT Office.
  5. The candidate has to go online to www.xlri.edu anytime during this time and take a print out of the XAT Admit Card where the Address of the Test Centre will be mentioned.

The Test Centres include Ahmedabad, Allahabad, Bangalore, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Cochin, Coimbatore, Dehradun, Delhi, Gurgaon, Guwahati, Gwalior, Hyderabad, Indore, Jaipur, Jamshedpur, Kolkata, Kozhikode, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, Noida, Patna, Pune and Vishakhapatnam. The centres are subject to change during a particular year.

The Test is conducted to select the most appropriate students for XLRI management education. XAT, is also the entrance test for seeking admission to around 35 other reputed Business Schools in the country such as XIMB (Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar), LIBA (Loyola Institute of Business Administration, Chennai), BIM (Bharathidasan Institute of Management, Trichy) etc.
