What is GATE?

            GATE, Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering is an All-India Examination conducted by the Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT's) and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, on behalf of the National Coordinating Board - GATE, Department of Education, Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD), and Government of India.


Objectives of GATE:

            The main objective of GATE is to identify meritorious and motivated candidates for admission to Post Graduate Programmes in Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Science and Pharmacy at the National level. Through GATE, it is easy to find the students who has the required skills and persue higher studies in the field of engineering.


Importance of GATE:
  • Clearing GATE helps you out in getting admission in PG Programme and avail scholarships so that you can study and earn simultaneously without giving burden to parents.

  • It gives great learning and research opportunities from IITs, IISc, and NITs, the esteemed institutes of our country.

  • PSU's like BARC, NPCIL, HAL etc. give importance to GATE scores for various job positions in their organizations.

  • If you qualify in GATE, you are eligible for the award of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) in the CSIR laboratories.

  • You can interact and can get a chance of working with renowned scientists all over the world.


Eligiblity Criteria for GATE:

The following categories of candidates are eligible to appear in GATE:

  • Bachelor degree holders in Engineering/ Technology/ Architecture (4 years after 10+2) and those who are in the final or pre-final year of such programmes.

  • Those with a Master degree in any branch of Science/ Mathematics/ Statistics/ Computer Applications or equivalent and those who are in the final or pre-final year of such programmes can also appear for the GATE.

  • Those who have obtained qualifications through examinations conducted by professional societies recognized by UPSC/AICTE (e.g. AMIE) as equivalent to B.E./B.Tech. Those who have completed section A or equivalent of such professional courses can also take the GATE.

  • Candidates in the second or higher year of the Four-year Integrated Master degree programme in Engineering/Technology or in the third or higher year of Five-year Integrated Master degree programme and Dual Degree programme in Engineering/Technology can also appear in the GATE.
